“TARIFVERTRAG – JETZT!” (Collective agreement – Now!) rings out across Scharounplatz, right next to the Berlin Philharmonic Hall.
Around 30 TVStud activists from several cities gathered there along with numerous other workers. Whether from university hospitals, academic teaching and research, public services or road construction – they all came to mark the start of the 2023 collective bargaining round for the federal states. The first round of negotiations took place on 26 October in the nearby Baden-Württemberg state representation.
It quickly becomes clear that there is not only great distress among student employees, but also a determination to take action now and improve their own working conditions!
The statements made by the affected employees show a great indignation at the policies of the federal and state governments, but also the unity among different groups of workers in their common struggle.
Afterwards, the demonstration proceeded to the looming state representation building, where behind closed doors the employers refused to even put forward an offer for the people.
Here as well, in terms of volume, chants of the TVStud campaign and a chainsaw from forestry workers who are also present to lend their support stand out.
