TVStud-Info #1

Dear colleagues, dear fellow students und supporters,

Following a decision by the ver.di Federal Collective Bargaining Commission for the Public Services (BTKöD) on 17 November 2025, it is not set that our trade unions ver.di and GEW are once again demanding a collective agreement on the working conditions of student employees in the upcoming negotiations as part of the collective bargaining round for the federal states. Negotiations will begin on 3 December 2025 in Berlin. The other scheduled negotiation dates in Potsdam are 15–16 January 2026 and 11–13 February 2026. Until the start of the collective bargaining negotiations, our preparations are in full swing so that we can take to the streets and strike for our demands if necessary.

With its decision, ver.di BTKöD followed the recommendation of our ver.di TVStud negotiating commission, which is made up of delegates elected by you from the ver.di regional districts. The TVStud negotiating commissions at ver.di and GEW based their recommendations on the positions of the more than 5,000 student employees who took part in the digital survey of demands.

We are calling for student employees to be covered by a collective agreement, thereby ending one of the biggest gaps in collective bargaining in the public sector.

Our aim is to overcome the precarious working conditions of student employees. Unpaid overtime, short contract terms and chain fixed-term contracts, accompanied by a particularly precarious relationship of dependency, must finally come to an end. That is why we are calling for:

  • a minimum contract term of 24 months
  • a minimum of 40 hours per month (reduction possible at the request of the employee)
  • a standard minimum hourly wage of
    • 17.00 euros in the first year of employment,
    • from the second year: 18.00 euros,
    • from the third year: 19.00 euros (calculated from the start of the first employment contract).
